The Truth About God’s Love

The Truth About God's Love

I recently reminded my two “passionate” children: Do you know I still love you, even when I’m frustrated with you? I hope they feel it. Even when my voice is a little more snappy. Even when I’m imperfect in my love. I hope they can always know, without a shadow of a doubt, how deep my love goes.

I wonder how often I hear my Heavenly Father whisper I love you to me? It is in trees, a golden green, flicker in the fading sun’s light. It is in the blueness of the sky with white cotton clouds. The pages of scripture tell of it. The gentle waves lapping on the lake, the warm sun, the cold chilly air and tiny flakes of snow all draw me to the Creator.  They are gifts to remind me of His love.

Therefore thus says the LORD:
“If you turn, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me…..I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless.”
Jeremiah 15:19, 21

We can stand in confidence, knowing He is not angry with us. No matter how far we’ve turned away in our sin, restorations is always possible. All because His steadfast love and faithfulness, He is never snappy. God is never frustrated or mad. Listen again to this truth: God is not angry with you.

Right now. In this moment. You are loved. Let that sink in. Let it soak you like a warm summer rain. Let it wash away the doubt and shame. Let Him forgive you. Did you hear me? Let Him love you. Let Him forgive the sins of the past. Let Him change your heart to look like His. Let love change you.

As I soak in the beauty of His love, the purity and simplicity that God loves me, I want to remember these truths:

  1. God loved me, even when I didn’t love Him.
  2. God loves me, even when I still mess up.
  3. God loves me, as I hide in shame.
  4. God loves me enough to change me.

Even when I mess up – which is daily – I’m still loved. In the middle of a mess I’ve created, I am still loved. No amount of shame or guilt will keep me from His love. In fact, shame and guilt bring me to His love. As we recognize our sin, we can leave it behind and run to our Father. He is waiting, you know. Waiting to bring us back home. He is ready to bring us to the place where He can change us.

Not only are we loved, we are also…..
Restored.
Forgiven.
Redeemed.
Worthy.
Chosen.
Rescued.
Created.

What makes you feel as if you aren’t loved?
Why might you not feel God’s love for you?
How can we change our feelings to match the truth?

I am passionate about Bible study. It is through many Bible studies God has brought me closer to Him. It wasn’t about getting more “head knowledge” of God. It was learning about Him so I can know Him deeper. Abiding is about growing closer to Christ. One way to do that is to study scripture.

Here are some devotionals I’ve read (or am currently reading):
