Loyal is a character trait we love to praise. In customers. In movements. In friendships. Loyalty to one’s beliefs and ideas are celebrated and encouraged. Yet, we as humans have such an infinity to be non-loyal.
When I heard this word today I though of the Lauren Daigle song, Loyal. When I heard the title, I thought the song would be about being loyal to God. Or to a cause. Or friends. Instead, its about God’s loyalty to me.
It begins by saying….
I could never earn your heart.
I could never reach that far.
But you have pulled me close.
You’ll never let me go.
I’m safer forever in your arms.
That’s right. We could never earn the faithfulness of God. Never could we be enough to measure up. But His love His loyal. Unwavering. Faithful. True. Pure. Unconditional. More faithful than the rising sun. The grace of God follows us loyally.
When God called us to adopt, I thought we would grow out faith. No, we just sat back and watched front-row to the faithfulness of God. It is hard to explain, but we only grow through these past two years because of the faithfulness of God. His loyalty held us.
He held us as our world shook.
He held us as we questioned ourselves.
He held us as we struggled through the care of our children.
He held us through the unknown medical tests.
He held us as we wept in the night.
He held us as through the it all.
To see tangible faithfulness brings me to tears. His love is truly loyal.
