Hi! I’m joining the Five Minute Friday community again. Every week a group of writers gathers together as we exercise with free-writing. It has become more than just a link-up, but a community!
Read about Five Minute Friday here. Today’s prompt is: WAY
A way. The other day my girls watched the Disney movie Moana again. They hadn’t seen it in awhile, so as I listened to the sweet songs while I cleaned the kitchen, I thought about Moana’s message to little girls.
Make your own path. Make your own way. Its deep inside your heart. Just follow it.
Listen. Disney is secular. And Disney will always be shouting the message: “follow your heart.” My girls are too little to grasp the depths of those words and take it by heart, so I’m not worried. But I worry about them as they grow older, will they believe the lie that they must make their own way? As women in our Christian society we are told two very different things. 1. We can BE and DO anything, even what men do! 2. Motherhood is our high calling. Which is the right thinking?
In the movie Moana, she feels called to stay at home but also to explore the ocean. Which will she choose? Why does there have to be a choice? I don’t have all the answers. More than anything, I want to teach my girls (and all my children) : Jesus is the way.
More than anything Jesus will guide. More than gut feelings, heart longings, and the world: Jesus will lead the way. How do I know this?
Because He’s done it in my life. Through my study of His word. Staying in church. Being close to other Christians. The message I want to leave to my girls is: Just stay close to Jesus and His Word.
