When You Need God to Fix It

What if you have something God isn’t fixing? A relationship? A disease? Find out what to do when restoration isn’t coming……

A couple of years ago my two oldest boys asked for a hammer for Christmas. It was the craziest thing, but not surprising. They had seen their daddy work around the house. I could see their little minds imagining all kinds of things they could “hammer.” Needless to say, I didn’t end up buying my then 8 and 6-year-old boys hammers. We talked about how tools are great, but we have to know how to use the tools responsibly first before we get to have them.

My husband loves to work with tools. In fact, his favorite hobby is woodworking. The smell of the wood, the sawdust on the ground and warm garage is his favorite place. At one point he made me a stool to put my feet on while I’m sitting in the chairs at church (I’m only 4’11’’). He’s also made a cradle for our children. Those things are such treasured gifts, not only because they are practical and well-made, but because they were made my the hands of someone I love. And he poured his love into making those things. I doubt we will be able to take the cradle to Honduras, but I’m for sure taking that stool!

While I waited for my husband to finish the projects, it was tempting to stand in the doorway and tap my foot. Even though I knew what the finished product would look like I didn’t know when it would be finished and I was tired of waiting.

We are the same way with God, aren’t we? We want to tap our foot and look at our watch. A Bible study leader I respect posted this on her Instagram today: “Time is not our God.” And often our timing differs so greatly than God’s – and that has to be ok. With my husband and his woodworking projects, I couldn’t get out my hammer and make the project go faster, but I could stop standing in the doorway and get back to doing the work I was called to do. ….Read the rest here.
