How to Read the Bible for the Weary Woman

How to Read the Bible for the Weary Woman

It hurts to be in the thick of it. All around your life feels like a tangled mess. Someone came and chopped away at all of the good branches. Look at my poor little bush here. It used to bloom with beautiful flowers, but not anymore. I choked back a tear when I passed it by on my evening walk. The poor thing, I thought.

Suddenly I felt like that silly bush. I had once been blooming, fresh, and happy. Basking in the daily sunlight I was content in my corner of this universe. Then my life suddenly gets uprooted and I’m tired and weary.  Not weary as in tired. Of course with five kids I’m tired. After kid number two I think I gave up feeling “rested” for the near future. Physically tired is a normal thing for me, but weariness of the soul is seeping into my heart. A weariness of this life I’m living. There is weariness here in the unknowns, the confusion, the turmoil, and the loud voices of the world make me weary. The heartache people are facing makes me weary. The complaining, the sadness, and the overall state of the world makes me weary. So I wonder if God knows what He is doing. Eight months ago God cut everything out of my life. So I’m like that weary little bush. Pruned and left a little barren. What’s next, after the pruning?

God, the Faithful Gardener, the Good Gardner, the Wise Gardner, will sometimes prune our lives as well. If you look close enough there is one little flower left. And sometimes it seems He will cut away everything from our lives in order to see the one true thing. The one True Person who remains when everyone else leaves is God. Jesus, His Son, remains and can never be cut away. We will never be cut completely away. Don’t worry. You are not emptied or broken. You are being healed. You are being filled. You are being readied to bloom again. God prunes our lives of people in order to show us He is the One who will never leave, never disappoint, and always is enough to fill our dry, weary hearts.

So I’ve created a reading plan for the weary woman. Not because I think you need it but because I need it. I am the weary woman today and I want you to know you are not alone in your weariness. Take heart, friend. Print off this reading plan and let’s read these truths together. Let’s lift our weary hearts to the Faithful Creator and remember He still loves us, even in our weariness.

Download this plan with a friend! Do you have a person in your life who is weary? Print two copies of this reading plan and do it together. Keep each other accountable and let you both remind each other of God’s truth.
