Fun Friday – Summer Activities

It’s almost SUMMER!  I love summer, and I’d love for you to join me as we welcome summer with a Fun Friday post about those fun summer activities you can do with your kiddos!

Fun Friday

I am I can’t wait to try some of these!  They are all found on my Summer in the Sun Pinterest board.   Most activities you find on Pinterest look fun and exciting, but after you click on the link, the prep-work for it is CRAZY!

So the activities I’ve listed below either have a very short list of what you need or materials you already have!

Easy Prep Summer

The first is this Squirt Gun Painting –

The only things you need are water color paper, these water guns, and liquid water color paint.* You might want to get an easel, but we are going to try it on the ground as well. For less that $15, you have the supplies for this fun activity you can do over and over again! I know my boys will love doing it.

The next super fun activity is Spray Chalk. The only thing you need are squirt bottles, corn starch, baking soda, and either the liquid watercolors or food coloring*!  It is a great, easy kid-friendly activity!

Fill the spray bottles 1/3 of the way with a baking soda and corn starch mixture, using roughly equal amounts of both ingredients.  Add a few drops of food coloring or liquid watercolors and then fill the bottles with very warm water.  Use a butter knife or similar to stir the mixture as best you can, and then place the spray spouts on and shake the bottles really, really well.  You will want to shake the bottles once more just before play, as some of the corn starch does settle at the bottom of the bottle.

Finally, here are two a super fun activity that you probably have the materials for already.

First is water balloons! For ideas on different games to do with water balloons click here.

The next is freezing toys into blocks of ice.  You can either use ice trays, or a big bucket of ice.   (Make sure to use waterproof toys!)

We tried a couple of these activities and they worked GREAT!

They spent almost an our hour trying to get the toys out of the ice!!!

  1. I love the ice block activity. Henry LOVED it when we did it two summers ago. I definitely need to bring it out again this summer!
