31 Days {Crash}

{Crash}

Last month, while on vacation, our family was in a serious car accident. The moment of the crash is all a blur now, but the feelings of panic and fear have lingered. We are giving thanks daily for God’s protection on our family. No one was seriously injured. Our car was totaled, but we are fine.

At the time of the crash, we were on vacation thousands of miles from home or family. My uncle lived several miles away. We had just finished visiting friends we had met in China. It was dark and raining. At the moment of the impact, the first thing I thought was: “I can’t breathe.” My husband’s first thought was, “Is everyone ok?”

The little ones were all strapped in and screaming, but alive. Moments, which seemed to stretch to hours, ticked by as we wait for help. The second thought on both our  minds was, call for help. We sat in our smoking car with the rain pouring down around us. I tried to soothe the crying and reassue them with words of calm while my hands shook.

When our life suddenly crashes, we wait for help. We feel alone. Scared. Fear seems to be swallowing us whole. We do not wait in vain. Just as I knew the police and our friends were on the way, I was able to be calm and my hand stopped shaking.

Do not forget to call the most important Person during the “crash moments” in your life. He is waiting. He is always ready.

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
a helper who is always found
in times of trouble.
Therefore we will not be afraid,
though the earth trembles
and the mountains topple
into the depths of the seas,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with its turmoil. Selah
