This week our prompt is protect.
Start the timer….let’s GO!
When I think about the word protect, I envision again Psalm 23. I picture my Shepherd with His rod and staff. Sheep are helpless animals, but also prone to many attacks. The Shepherd is the only thing standing in the way of enemies and our lives. Not just physically, but spiritually Jesus stands beside and in front of us. Between the Father’s wrath. Between Satan’s accusations. Jesus stands to protect us.
He might not protect us from the hurt of the world. We will find sorrow. Grief will surely discover a lodging in our hearts. Pain and tears will flow from living in a sinful world. He cannot protect us from feeling the pain, but He can heal.
And why do I trust this Shepherd to lead and protect me? Because I know Him. I know my Shepherd. I see who He is. He is
The Lord who provides. ~ The Lord of peace. ~ The Lord who heals.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
