Psalms to Help You Sleep: Psalm 88

Psalm 88 is one of the darkest and most honest prayers in the Psalms. The writer cries out to God from a place of deep sorrow, loneliness, and despair—and unlike many other psalms of lament, the circumstances do not resolve by the final verse. Yet there is something quietly hopeful here: the psalmist keeps praying.

If you’re ending the day feeling discouraged, lonely, or unable to see a way forward, Psalm 88 gives you permission to bring those feelings honestly before God. As you listen tonight, may you remember that faith doesn’t always mean having answers. Sometimes faith simply means continuing to call out to the God who hears you, even in the dark.
