Prayer has become my lifeline in the mornings. It is a way for me to become centered and concentrate on God. And I am so not worthy of such an honor. The God of heaven, who sits on His majestic throne with hosts of angels surrounding Him, singing praises to Him, and still He listens to my prayers?! Isn’t that amazing? I can’t even imagine such an honor.
One of the best practices I started a couple of years ago (and still do) is write out a portion of my prayers. I won’t write out my entire prayer (it would take too long), but I will write some feelings and thoughts and names of people I want to pray for. It has been so helpful to keep me focused. And I get to look back and see how God has answered!
He is nearer than we think. Do you believe it? It is not about the amount of prayer we pray, but the fact we lift our voices to God.
If prayer is something you struggle with – you are NOT alone. Every January I make the promise to pray more….but then around the middle of the month I’ve already fallen short. What if I gave you a boost to your prayer life?
Praying without ceasing (I Thess. 5:17) is easier than you think! One of my spiritual goals for 2019 is more than just about prayer, but about practicing the presence of God. I love this quote from a favorite book:
“He does not ask much of us, merely a thought of Him from time to time, a little act of adoration, sometimes to ask for His grace, sometimes to offer Him your sufferings, at other times to thank Him for the graces, past and present, He has bestowed on you, in the midst of your troubles to take solace in Him as often as you can. Lift up your heart to Him during your meals and in company; the least little remembrance will always be the most pleasing to Him. One need not cry out very loudly; He is nearer to us than we think.” - The Practice of the Presence of God, Brother Lawrence.
