An Invitation to Rest
Isaiah 55
“Come, everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;”
1. Come. All. All who thirsts. Do you have it all figured it out? Are you comfortable with your life? Completely content? No anxiety? His invitation isn’t for you. Our God calls to those in the pit. To those without light. To those who are struggling. It is a simple invitation: Come. No pre-qualifications. No conditions. Only that you are in need. Only thirst. Come with empty arms.
“Listen diligently to me.”
2. Listen. God has given us all we need. You look around your life and make a mental list of all of the things you wish you had. Are they needs or wants? He provides the food and water for our life. We will never be in need. Listen to His Word. All the promises, protection, and principles we need for life are there. Listen, expecting Him to provide and respond.
“Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples,
a leader and commander for the peoples.”
3. Look. To Jesus. These verses in Isaiah are prophetic teachings about the Messiah. Our Redeemer has come. Our Emmanuel is here. Our Savior brings comfort, direction, and salvation for all those who look. Focus your attention. Keep Christ first. Look at the Savior.
“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
call upon him while he is near;”
4. Seek. Keep looking. Keep searching and trying to figure it out. Let your heart long for Him more and more each day. Let the first thoughts of the day be of God. Let your mind wonder, only in prayer to Him. He is near. Right now. Available. Ready to answer. Isaiah wouldn’t say “call upon him” unless he expect God to answer. Just as the seasons of the earth are predictable, so is His word.
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
The invitation has been issued. Come. Listen. Look. Seek. When your heart takes these steps, you can expect to find the joy, peace, and success. Most importantly – God will be GLORIFIED! Be satisfied.
What is holding you back from coming to God? Which of these steps do you need to take today? Do you need to just come? Listen? Look? Seek? God is calling you.
