Be Still and Know – Tuesday Talk
Be still. Stop striving. Once we are quiet and our souls find a little bit of rest…..then what? God call us to rest and abide in Him. Abide and rest. Make your home with Christ rest in your heart. It starts with more than just a heart position. There is purpose in our being still. Our purpose is to KNOW.
Be Still and Know…..Be Still and Abide
- Know He is God. Psalm 46:7, “Be still and know that I am God….The LORD of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress.” A powerful God is personal. A personal God is powerful. Are you still striving? Worrying and anxious? Know God. Abide in Him. Who He is. What He has done and is doing. Rest in knowing Him.
- Know His Word. John 8:31, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.” Being still isn’t clearing your mind and just thinking about nothing. When God spoke about being still, it wasn’t just to be empty, but to be filled. Filled with knowledge of His Word. Rest in knowing His Word.
- Know His love. I John 4:16, “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” Knowing His love for us allows us to pour it out better. Love others. Love God. That’s it. Simple? Yes. Easy? No. Loving others takes sacrifice sometimes. Loving others is a choice. Yet, when we sink into the ocean that is His love for us, it spills over into others. Rest in knowing He loves you.
Abiding and rest sometimes requires action. Think. Dwell. Move your mind and decided in your heart to KNOW. Know He is God. Know His Word. Know He loves you. You don’t have to feel it. Psalm 46 doesn’t say: Feel at rest. It says: “Be at rest.” Its an action, and sometimes you can’t wait for your heart to make the first move.
Abide in God.
Abide in Scripture.
Abide in His Love.

Abiding and rest sometimes requires action–so true, Sarah! We need to make conscious choices to enter rest, to dwell on those things that are true and lovely and noble and honest and pure and praiseworthy and excellent. It’s not easy to reroute our thinking! Lovely thoughts.
This post is a beautiful reminder that rest IS a verb and sometimes I need to remember to take the time to be still. I have a hard time with that, so I think I needed to read this!
Thank you for sharing this reminder Sarah. God is good!
