Four Truths About Motherhood
Lisa Jo Baker is one of my favorite motherhood writers. Her book Surprised by Motherhood is an amazing encouragement to mommas, especially mommas of little ones! She is always saying:
Parenting is not hard because you are bad it it. It is hard because it is designed to be.
I want to encourage you today: Its ok if mothering and parenting is hard. You are not alone in your feelings of it being hard. Parenting is hard because we live in a sinful world with sinful people. We are broken and fallen….but we are also redeemed. We will never be the “perfect” parent, and that’s ok. We aren’t called to be the perfect parent. We are called to Teach. Love. Forgive. And show grace.
When parenting is hard, and you just feel stuck….here are some truths to help you keep on track:
TRUTH #1 – You are not a bad mother. The End. If you love your children, want the best for them and are asking the Lord for wisdom and strength, you are doing O.K.
TRUTH #2 – Your children’s behavior is not a reflection of your parenting skills. Just because your children misbehave. Yell and scream in the grocery store doesn’t mean you are doing it wrong.
TRUTH #3 – Its ok to try something, and then try something else. Parenting is a lot of trial and error! No matter how long you’ve been a mom you know this to be true.
TRUTH #4 – God will give you the strength and wisdom. Do not doubt that you have what it takes. You do – IN HIM. All the strength, hope, love, joy, and wisdom you need to parent is available. You might need to pray and ask for help. Seek it in His Word. After that, sit back and wait. Listen for His answer. He is amazingly awesome at answering prayer!

These are beautiful, Sarah! You packed a ton of parenting reassurance in this one post. I’m sure mothers everywhere can relate. I know I CAN! Whenever a child is throwing a tantrum somewhere, I give that mom a “I’ve been there” smile. 🙂
Thank you for enlightening me with these truths, God is definitely showing me more and more each day and I rely on His strength and grace alone.
