There is No Thrill in Walking

“They that wait upon the Lord…..shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

There is no thrill in walking; it is the test of all the stable qualities. – Oswald Chambers

While we wait, we do not want to walk….we want to run. Run fast. Run ahead. We don’t want to wait on paperwork. Or deadlines. Or signatures. We do not want to wait for approvals or court dates. We want to run ahead of all of the people in front of us.

God doesn’t call us to run, but to walk. Walking is ordinary. It is just plain boring. Children never walk. They are wlays running. They are impulsive and impatient. How many times in my waiting do I find myself impatient and impulsive? The waiting life is one of walking. Waiting can be just plain boring, but walking is how we wait. The test of the Christian life is one of walking….not a life of thrills and excitement. Our Lord tests us during our times of waiting because we are forced to walk.

Do not lose the thrill of walking while you wait. Do not wish your life ahead, running ahead of your Father. No matter where you are in your Christian life – waiting or not – walking is what God has called you to do. Do not forget that He has called you, not to sprint through life, but run slow and steady as if you were in a marathon.

Walking is moving forward.  Do not think you are “stuck” while you walk. You are still moving forward. Times passes the same. Waiting does not mean stillness. Move forward with your life. Do fun things. Plan activities. Know that your walking is moving forward.

Walking allows for vision. While you walk, you can see the beauty around you. You can enjoy the present. Live in today. While you walk and wait, make plans for the future. Take your time and dream. Walking can be a time of dreaming.

Walking involves His presence. When your life is not rushed, but relaxed, you can see more of God’s presence in your life. You will see Him in the small things. In the details. The times He walks before you, making the path clear. Working behind the scenes while you wait. You will see the Father more clearly while you walk.

Walk with Jesus during your waiting. You need to hear this: you are not alone. No matter who has abandoned you during your time of waiting, you are not abandoned by God.  No matter who has forgotten you during this season, God remembers you. Walk with Jesus. No need to run ahead, for God lives with you in the present. Today.

When he lit up the way before me and I walked safely through the darkness.
Waiting can feel like darkness, but you will walk safely through the waiting. God will light the way. Trust Him today.
