As we move out of our house this coming year, I’m wondering what to do with the part of the wall in our hallway. You see, it isn’t just a part of the wall, it is a piece of our family. Every six months we stand the children up to the hall and measure their height. As the years go by, we look to see how far they’ve grown. Bittersweet memories flood my mind every time I walk past that penciled-up piece of our wall. Maybe we will mark the measurements on a piece of paper and fold it up. So that way when we move we can mark a new wall and continue the tradition.
As mothers we measure a lot of things. Only, when we measure ourselves – how do we do it? Do we measure our success? Is it….
- how well-behavior our children are?
- if their clothes are nice?
- our feelings?
- what other people are doing?
Or do we measure our motherhood by the standards set by God?
In God’s Word, we find a set of heart attitudes (especially in Galatians 5:23-24) in which to measure our success. In many verses we read about peace, grace, contentment, and rest. How do we do it? How do we live a life where we measure success by God’s economy? We find ourselves too busy, right? Well. Busy Is NO EXCUSE!
It starts with the shiny things. We all get distracted – but let’s focus on what is important. If you find yourself asking these questions, I’ve got help!
What and who should get the best of us?
And why is it so enticing to choose lesser things instead of lasting things?
As moms we know the magnetic pull to steer away from what’s important and choose what feels irresistible in the moment. In Shiny Things, Amanda Bacon and Anne-Renee Gumley bring to light the distractions moms face every day.
Honoring God and loving our families are our highest priority, but sometimes we need help keeping them there. For all of us who find ourselves caught in the cycle of distraction but are looking for a way out, Shiny Things will help us:
- identify the threat of distractions so we can learn to live with intention
- resist the pull to be interrupted by non-essentials and focus on God and our priority people
- purpose to live free from distraction with hearts turned Godward in all we do
It’s never too late to take hold of what’s most important. Today’s a great day to start. ORDER A COPY HERE.
