Waking Up to New Mercies

Waking Up to New Mercies

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Most of the time I’m not keen on waking up in the morning. In fact, I struggle to get up in the morning and I’m not sure why. Well, I kind of know why. I’m so bad about staying up late. Once my husband and I get the kids into bed (which feels like an Olympic event), we are just craving time to be alone and together. So we put off going to bed so we can watch T.V., work, or even just talk.

It makes it hard to get up in the morning. Today was different. I went to bed looking forward to the morning. It wasn’t a special morning – in fact, it was the exact same morning as yesterday. Nothing big or new happening but to me it felt huge waking up and realizing God’s mercies were new.

Yesterday we had a bad day. Tempers and tears clouded our day and put a damper on everything. Parenting children from hard places is hard enough – but adding the sin of my own heart just complicates the effort sometimes. I went to bed super discouraged and down. As I was laying there, Jason reminded me of God’s new mercies in the morning. Suddenly, I realized I had a reason to look forward to the next day.

This morning I woke up and immediately sighed with relief. The new mercies were here. I know technically the sun doesn’t actually send new mercies. God’s forgiveness is available ANY time of the day. There is something new and beautiful about a new day, isn’t there?

As the sun peeked into my room this morning I was reminded again of God’s faithfulness. If there is a “theme” to my life and story it is definitely God’s faithfulness. His faithfulness to forgive, to love, and to heal has woven a golden thread throughout my entire life. Not just in the big moments but the small moments.

In the sin I try to get rid of, but keeps coming back: He is faithful to forgive.
In the heartache that seems to rear up: He is faithful to comfort.
In the darkness which threatens my hope: He is faithful to provide light.

Waking Up to New Mercies

Friend, I don’t know what kind of hurt, loneliness, or despair plagues your heart – but know this: God is faithful to provide new mercies. Each day we can wake up rejoicing knowing we get a new 24 hours and God does not harbor resentment for our past. Do you need to hear this truth:

God is not angry with you. If you are a Christian, confessed your sin, and are striving to live like God can you hold onto this truth? God is not mad or resentful or harboring displeasure for you. God will never ever forget His kindness. I love this verse in Ruth when Naomi realizes this about God:

“Blessed be he of the Lord, who has not forsaken His kindness to the living and the dead!” Ruth 2:20

Hang onto this truth friend and let God’s new mercies wake you each morning. If you need a little hope, why don’t you try the new hope email challenge. It’s free! Sign up here.
