How Are You Holding This Season?
How Are You Holding This Season?
How are you holding this season? How am I holding this season? Life around us is blurry and uncertain. But it is not unclear to God. Everything comes from a Sovereign God. So this is from Him. If it is, I can clinch my first and bear it. Or I can release, open my hand, and receive all of the goodness and kindness God has for me. God’s kindness can be found in the season of being unseen, unknown, and alone. We might be alone, but there is kindness in so many things. I cannot go to church, but there is church online and that is the kindness of God. I have a hard time focusing, but God’s word can be consumed even when my heart is distracted.
I am overwhelmed, but that means I have a purpose. A friend of mine shared this on Instagram the other week: “Our purpose is God.” What does this season look like for you? For me, it means making decisions, but then also staying still. It means learning and growing, but also diving into a deeper relationship with my husband, kids, and God.
I don’t know the next step, but God has promised peace in the decision. And He promises all things will work out for my good. So I can trust the goodness. I can trust His goodness and trust His plan. I can trust He is still on the throne. Let me not lose this heavenly perspective. With an open hand I can let go of the lonely feelings but also this open hand allows me to receive all of God’s goodness and kindness waiting for me.
When we hold this season with a clenched fist – whatever season we find ourselves – we will always get tired and overwhelmed. God is slowly teaching me to open my hand and let Him hold me in this season. I can worry about a lot of things.
How will we get school books down to Honduras if the airports remain closed?
How will we learn the language when our teacher no longer is able to keep his job?
How will we serve people when the church is closed?
How can we communicate to our neighbors when our Spanish is so limited?
God is not limited by this season I’m in. In fact, He is teaching me that this season is His season. Everything in life is a gift from Him. The heartache, grief, and even yes – the loneliness is a gift. If I’m clenching my fists, trying to hold on to life, then I can never receive what He has for me.
How are you holding this season? Can I encourage you to open your hand? Start with prayer. I have a free 52-Week Prayer guide if you would like to start today.
