O Come, All You Unfaithful
O Come, All You Unfaithful
When I first heard this song, “O Come, All You Unfaithful,” four years ago I was undone. It was the perfect song for my heartache during Christmastime. It was 2020. Four years later, I’ve experienced a lot more heartache and sadness. The hardest part is that the world still seems so broken. When my playlist randomly landed on this song I began to weep. The words start out this way:
O come, all you unfaithful Come, weak and unstable Come, know you are not alone O come, barren and waiting ones Weary of praying, come See what your God has done Christ is born, Christ is born Christ is born for you
This year I feel the ache of this broken world in a million different ways. It is hard to have hope. How can we go out rejoicing? Can we really believe that miracles still happen? As Christmas approaches, may you and I remember that it was in the middle of a mess Jesus came!!
God Came For Us
God is not put off by our messiness. It is here that He came and He knew. He knew it would be hard to hope and hard to rejoice. The light of life would shine, but the darkness would seem greater. But the Gospel of John reminds us that the Light is too bright! Heaven’s light is Jesus and the darkness is not too strong for Him.
What a comfort to know that our Savior, our God, our Comforter knows each us and our needs. Let’s give ourselves some grace this season. Maybe life doesn’t look like what you imagined this year. Maybe you have said, “I didn’t sign up for….this.” In this unexpected place, may you find His love, His peace, and His comfort.
We are all welcome here and the most beautiful thing?! God takes us (who are unfaithful) and gives us worth. Christ was born so that we could be worthy. If we are in Christ, if we are a Christian, God says that no matter what life looks like: we are wanted, loved, and worthy. We might feel alone, barren, waiting, weary, and unfaithful – but we are not! Although we have nothing to offer, because of Christ we now have everything.
