What Does the Bible Say about New Mercies?
yes, we only get on life
but we are given many chances
to live it differently – Donna Ashworth

One night a few weeks ago I read this poem by Donna Ashworth. Although she not a Christian, these words had such a ring of truth I couldn’t shake the feeling. I thought to myself, what does the Bible say about new mercies?
The poem reminded me of Lamentations 2:22-23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Each morning, every 24-hours, God says things start again. You have new mercies, new beginnings, new starts. So, it doesn’t matter if January 1 has passed and all of your resolutions are gone. God says you get to start again.
- Do you have a sin that you are struggling with?
- Is there a choice you wish you could undo?
- Did you want to start something new?
- What new habit needs tending to?
God says, we have new mercies!

Here are some verses about New Mercies I found throughout the Bible:

Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19
For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. Isaiah 65:17
And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh. – Ezekiel 11:19
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. – 2 Corinthians 5:17
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. – 1 Peter 1:3
What common theme surrounds all of those verses?
Jesus Christ!
Jesus is the one mentioned in all of these verses. Our Savior brings water in the desert (John 4:14), He will restore us to a new creation (Revelation 21:1), and provides salvation.
New mercies stem from Jesus. So, cling to Jesus and know that God’s mercies come from Him.
