If you’ve been reading your Bible for a long time, you might think you don’t need a regular Bible reading plan. Well, do I have news for you!? You still need a plan!

I’ve been reading my Bible throughout my entire life, but my consistency really started in college and continued into my twenties. This year, I turn forty-two. That means I’ve been in the Word of God for over twenty years. I’ve read through the Bible about three times (probably more). I don’t say any of this to brag, but to offer you a word of caution—one I had to give myself just this past month.

You see, I’ve developed this wonderful habit of waking up early. Each morning, I get up, walk downstairs, and start my coffee. After turning on the light, I sit in my blue chair in the corner of the living room. I have my Bible, journal, and a devotional on the table right there.

Over the past few months, though, I’ve found myself struggling with knowing where to read each morning. Later in the day, I do my Bible study, but during that quiet thirty-minute window in the morning, I want to be still and listen to God’s voice. To do that, I need to read God’s Word.

So, where do I go?

We never outgrow the need for a plan!

This year, I’ve decided to follow a chronological Bible reading plan. Remember, you don’t have to start on January 1st, and you don’t have to read every day. I sleep in on Saturdays, and on Sundays, I’m busy getting ready for church, so I only have these quiet moments five times a week.

If you’d like, consider picking one of these suggestions for a good Bible reading plan. They require a little more reading than just a chapter or a few verses, and they’re designed for those of us who have already read through the Bible. Or, if you have a separate time for in-depth Bible study, these might also be great options for you.

3 Bible Reading Plans for the Advanced Bible Reader

1. The Chronological Bible Reading Plan

Download a free version here. I started this plan, and I like it because it’s not dated, so I can go at my own pace. If I had started in January, I might have finished in a year. But, as I mentioned earlier, I don’t always sit and read every day. I want to take my time and approach it this way for a change.

2. Feast on God’s Word

This is an intense Bible reading plan. You’ll need at least 15-20 minutes of reading (or listening) each day to keep up. It’s dated, but you can always ignore the dates and start at the beginning. You’ll read through the Bible in 9 months. Click here to download the dated Bible reading plan.

3. A Variety Version

Read three chapters a day: one from the Old Testament, one from Psalms/Proverbs, and one from the New Testament. If you follow this plan, you’ll read through the Bible in about three years. It’s a great option if you don’t want to read the Bible in a year, but still want to stay consistent and eventually read through the entire Bible! This plan also allows you to read Psalms and Proverbs several times. Download a free PDF here.
