The One Prayer I Pray For My Husband Everyday

I will be the first to admit that I am not the most consistent when it comes to prayer. I often find myself distracted, busy, and overwhelmed. But, there has been one prayer I do pray almost on a daily basis. If I do set aside time to pray, I always pray this one prayer for my husband.
For seventeen years I’ve been a stay-at-home mom. After giving birth to my oldest I quit teaching and have lived most of my days staying at home and working there. My husband has faithfully held a job all of this time. He is a doctor and I know everyone has their opinions about doctors, but this is the life we’ve lived for almost twenty years.
Over those years I’ve had a few different doctors myself, interacted with doctors on behalf of my children and even my parents. Not all doctors are created (or trained) equally. But, I have learned a lot about my husband these past twenty years and I can see without a shadow of a doubt that all doctors are human.
So, several years ago, when my husband was working a job that was weary and tiring, I began to pray this one prayer for him. I have continued to pray for it for almost twenty years now. Being a stay-at-home mom means that I should have more time to pray, but often I find myself too busy.
This simple prayer has been my go-to and I think it is not only a great prayer for our husbands, it is a great prayer for anyone we know – including ourselves.

The One Pray I Pray for my Husband Everyday
“Lord, give my husband wisdom and compassion. Amen.”
That’s it. Of course, I will add other things here and there, like safety as he travels, or strength if he is tired. Still, I’ve found that wisdom and compassion are probably the two most needful things as a doctor, but also as my husband. Wisdom to know how to make the best decisions and how to help people but also compassion for the difficult patients.
When he was working in the hospital, he would always tell me, “I see people on their worst day. NO one wants to be in the hospital.” This helped him see each person, even if they were grumpy, combative, or angry, with compassion.

I believe that he naturally has these characteristics: wisdom and compassion, but I also recognize that these things are also vital every single day! Even in my own life, I ask the Lord for these two things. I’ve found that praying this one prayer for my husband everyday opened the door to ask the Lord for these things for myself as well.
Compassion and wisdom are freely given by God and asking for them in prayer is an easy request. Did you ever stop to think that God wants to answer our prayers? If it is according to His will, He is ready and willing to answer them. So.
I encourage you to start praying for wisdom and compassion for your husband, but also for everyone you know. God will answer you every single time.
