When You Feel Invisible: Remember That God Sees You
On my knees, beside my bed, I closed my eyes and wished life was different. I prayed, asked God to work, and intervened. But my circumstances stayed the same. I felt the sadness creep into my very soul that night.
The next morning, even with the rising of the sun I struggled to see God’s mercies. Sadness makes me feel invisible. As a type-A, eldest daughter with five children, a busy husband, and lots of responsibilities, I don’t have time to be sad.
I do-do-do.

In the quiet moments, mostly at night or throughout my day, I try to pray but even God feels far away. Has sadness, disappointment, or anxiety caused you to feel invisible? I know it has for me. The enemy would like nothing better to say that even God doesn’t notice us.Â
But that is a lie.

In Genesis 16 we read a complicated and detailed story of a woman named Hager. For this servant woman life was unfair. Abraham was a man who followed the one true God, but he didn’t protect her from the wrath of a jealous wife. She fled to the wilderness. In the middle of her sorrow, her rejection, her sadness, the most unlikely Person showed up.Â
God.
Even though Hagar was mistreated and ran away, God found her. He found her, spoke to her, and addressed her situation. It actually says the “angel of the Lord” appeared to her. Many scholars believe this is a pre-incarnate Christ. Jesus came to Hagar. As a man, he walked up and spoke kindly to her, promised her that she was pregnant and her son would be a great nation. He told her to return.Â
She then responded by calling Him, “You are the God who sees me.”Â
Friend, God sees more than our circumstances. Psalm 139 reminds us that God knows our thoughts, our ways and the details of our days. His attention isn’t limited to our accomplishments or visible acts of service.
More than that, our sorrow is not hidden from Him either. We can walk one moment, one day at a time because we are known and loved by God!Â

5 Truths to Remember When You Feel Unseen
- God sees you, even when others overlook you. — Genesis 16:13

Friend, you may find yourself beside your bed tonight, praying about the same circumstances and wishing life were different. You don’t have to hide your sadness or find the perfect words to bring it to God. He sees the tears, knows the ache, and hears the prayer you can barely whisper. Even when you struggle to recognize His mercies, His care for you has not changed. As you move through the responsibilities of another day, you can pause and remember: you are seen, you are known, and you are loved by the God who met Hagar in the wilderness and is present with you right here.
