This wasn’t part of the plan.
I didn’t sign up for this.
If you’ve ever had these thoughts, chances are that your story has shifted in some unexpected way. But you can discover a purpose for your life.
If you are wondering how in the world to move forward, read the story of Moses and remember that even with a life crushed with disappointment, God’s plan goes forth, God’s presence provides, God’s promises are personal, and God’s purpose is never thwarted.
This is a book for a woman who wants to make sense of her story and develop a heart of confidence in her future again.

Hi, I’m Sarah
Hi, I’m Sarah. I didn’t sign up for a lot of things in my life. I didn’t sign up for depression, or special needs, or leaving the mission field after only two years. I have five children and have been married for eighteen years and there are things about myself and my family that I wouldn’t have chosen. In these disruptions, I’ve had hard, even painful questions – about myself, my plans, my trust in God, and even my very faith. Sometimes questions need to linger because eventually, the good God behind the scenes is going to show up. He always shows up.
If you are like me, then you’ve had a life filled with twists and turns. I know what it is like to search for God in the middle of heartache, disappointment, and disillusionment. In I Didn’t Sign Up for This, I share about my decade-long struggle with depression, going through the adoption process, and having to leave the mission field after just two years.
When our story suddenly shifts, we are left with uncertainty, disappointment, even heartbreak. In these moments we are tempted to question everything: our purpose, the choices that led us here, even our faith.
When your story shifts,
it doesn’t have to shipwreck your faith.
Yes, we want to grow through the hurt and disappointment—but we don’t know how.
We want to see a purpose in it. We want to know that God hasn’t left us and that He has good things waiting for us. When Moses sees a glimpse of God on the mountain, this is what God says:
“The Lord passed before him {Moses} and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.’”
Exodus 34:6
Moses didn’t settle in the Promise Land, but He met the Lord of Promise. In I Didn’t Sign Up For This, we see Moses’ deep-seated hope and faith in God. His legacy reminds us that even with a life crushed with disappointment, God’s plan goes forth, God’s presence provides, God’s promises are personal, and God’s purpose is never thwarted.
Like Moses, you may not have signed up for the path you’re on, but God can—and will—see you through it. As you journey through his life in these pages, you’ll discover:
- how life’s plot twists and interruptions are actually the ways God is working
- how God uses the darkest circumstances to proclaim his sovereign goodness
- how to number your days rightly, recognize God’s hand in each branch of your path, and cultivate a heart of wisdom and trust
- how to say goodbye to disillusionment and instead invite God’s plan, presence, promises, and purpose back into your heart
