The True Lamb
The True Lamb
My second son Titus has a sweet little stuffed lamb he sleeps with every night. For our Teen Christmas play, we needed it for the manger scene. A week or so before the play, I snatched it up to take with us. He watched me leave the room with his precious lamb and melted into a puddle of tears. I could not take “Lamby” early. He didn’t mind that Lamby was going to be in the play, but he could not sleep even one night without that sweet little stuffed animal. Granted, he has about five other “favorite” stuffed animals piled onto his bed. Lamby, however, was his very first favorite. Lamby would have to wait and go to the church the day of the play.
My second son is so full of innocence at four years old. Lamby is real. Lamby snuggles him when he sleeps and provides a tangible way to comfort at night. I do not like discourage his belief in fantasy. I know that soon he will outgrow all of that precious make-believe. That day is not today. His sweet lamb is still a beloved treasure. Just as I have found Jesus to be my beloved Treasure, I pray I never out-grow His love for me. Jesus is my precious lamb. He is the one who holds me in the nighttime of life. His comfort comes and I never want to let go, just as my sweet boy didn’t even want to let go of his treasured stuffed lamb.
John 1: 29 – The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
this lamb of God….
He takes away our sin.
Mom’s – that means all those mean thoughts you thought about your little ones – yeah. He covers it. Those sercret worries you hide in your heart – that sin of fret and distrust. His blood covers that. The True Lamb takes away our past sin and gives us power to say “no” to sin. We now have the ability to overcome sin in our life, because of the True Lamb.

Revelation 7:17 – For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
this lamb of God…
He will lead us to living waters and wipe away our tears.
The promise of eternity is that we will no longer be searching. We will no longer feel empty, or thirsty anymore. Our Lamb will guide us to the living fountains of water. Fountains are a never ending supply of water. When water is added to a fountain, it circulates. No new water is needed. We will have the “living” water. Christ Himself will satisfy our thirst. Maybe physically yes, but also spiritually. No more striving or working to find a rest. All those tears will be gone as well. Maybe our tears will flow one last time and fill that fountain. Our tears of fear. Our tears of grief. Our tears of shame. Our tears of regret. No more. The True Lamb will provide peace for our hearts and wipe the fear, grief, shame, and regret away….forever.

Revelation 21:23 – The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.
this lamb of God…
He will be our Light.
In this New Jereslum, what strikes me as amazing is that there will be no more sun. No more moon. The actually Glory of God will illuminate and lighten our way. No more nighttime. No more darkness. Ever. Read it again: NO MORE NIGHT. Light will come from this True Lamb. In our hearts we will be at rest. The darkness brings back memories….memories filled with anger or fear. The light of the sun will no even be able to compare to the Light from the Lamb.

Rejoice in these truths this Christmas season. A baby was born. A baby that would free all of us from our sin. A baby that would lead us to living waters and wipe away our tears. A baby that would one day Light the very place of Eternity.
Surly the angels knew what they sang to those raggedly bunch of shepherds:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
