31 Days {Wave}
{Wave}
One of my favorite memories of our trip to the beach was when my two middle children were playing in the waves. The five year old barely remembers the beach from two years ago, but the three year old was barely a year old. So, she was experiencing the waves for the first time.
Not to be out done by her big brothers, she jumped right in and ran into the water the very first day. The huge waves were a little intimidating for her. She would run up, then run back screaming in joy. The fear and intimidation of the gigantic wall of water mixed with the fun knowing she was still safe in then shallows.
One day, the five-year-old reached over to her while they were knee-deep in the water and grabbed her hand. “Come on, Emmalia,” he pronounced. “Let’s hold hands and jump.” So together they jumped the big waves. And she suddenly felt so much braver. She ventured a little farther while she was holding his hand. Soon they were waist deep and laughing at the spray of salty water getting in their faces.
Will I run away from the giant waves when they threaten my little comfortable space of life? I feel threatened by the hardships unknown and even the ones I can see. I don’t feel brave. Then I remember His hands. I remember He hasn’t let me go. He is jumping in the waves with me. Right beside me. Nearer to me than I ever could imagine. I can be brave while I hold His hand.
