Scripture Cards – The Good Shepherd & #TuesTalk
I’m currently reading the book “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23” by W. Phillip Keller. The author was born in East Africa and spent years caring for sheep. His insights give a deeper understanding of one of the most popular Psalms. I love the way He describes Psalm 23:1 and the phrase: “I shall not (be in) want.” :
“To grasp the inner significance of this simple statement it is necessary to understand the difference between belonging to one master or another – to the Good Shepherd or to an imposter.” – Keller
He goes on explain how we will never be without when Jesus is our Shepherd. This truth is based on the Shepherd’s character. A sheep’s well being was direct related to the character of the shepherd. Knowing our Shepherd allows us to rest in His care. Even if we walk through dark valleys, we will not be alone and we can be confident we will have what we need. What we know about the Shepherd is directly related to how much we trust Him. It is imperative to remember the first part of Psalm 23:1 – “The LORD is my Shepherd.”
David, the shepherd-king, knew who watched over him. He knew the LORD would care, love, and protect him. David could claim the promises of Psalm 23 because he knew his Shepherd.
What do you know about the LORD? What do you think of, when you think of Jesus being your shepherd?
