Dear Lord, I pray you will guide our minds and hearts for even the next few minutes. Draw us close to You. As we open your Word, let the Holy Spirit guide us to truth. Amen.

Let’s talk about……

confidence.

Confidence isn’t walking into a room with your head cocked to the side. It isn’t the Fonz’s swagger or the gait of a princess. Confidence isn’t the plastic smile when life is handing you a bunch of lemons. Life hands out a lot of lemons. We can’t make lemonade out of all of them. Confidence isn’t believing something is true to make it true. My son can believe he is the best on his entire team, but that doesn’t make it true. In fact, over confidence often leads to a fall.

Here are the two definitions for confidence. Which one do you think is the biblical definition?

1. full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of aperson or thing:

2. belief in oneself and one’s powers or abilities; self-confidence; self-reliance; assurance:

In our passage today, God is calling us to be confident. Not confidence in ourselves, but in our prayer life.

In Isaiah 6 we read about God’s throne room. It is a room so powerful and majestic, Isaiah is thrown to his knees in reference. He immediately sees his sins and cries for a cleansing.

Today we can enter that same throne room…but how? We can pray, not with a swagger of self-importance, but a quiet calm of assurance.

Ultimately our confidence comes from….well, let’s discover together! Print off the devotional sheet, or just keep scrolling below!

5 Minute Devotional for Women on Confident Prayer

How to Live as Confident Christians in Our Prayer Life

How to Live as Confident Christians in Our Prayer Lives

“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:19-22

Here are three reasons we can pray with confidence:

  1. The Blood of JESUS (…since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus….) Jesus’ death on the cross did more than pay for our sins. It did even more than allow us to enter heaven. It did more than allow us eternal life. It did MORE! It allows us to pray with confidence. The curtain which separate us from a Holy God is torn in two! We can pray with confidence because Jesus’ blood grants us access!
  2. The Priesthood of JESUS (…since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith…) If you read Hebrews you will see a beautiful picture of Jesus’ priesthood. It begins in Hebrews 4:14-5:14 and continues in Hebrews 7:1-8:13. Jesus is our High Priest, the perfect High Priest. We see He is perfect in that He doesn’t need to ask forgiveness for Himself first.  He is also eternal, always interceding before the Father for us. No matter the hour of need, we can pray.
  3. The Faithfulness of JESUS (…since he who promised is faithful….) We don’t have to wonder if our mistake keep us from praying to God. They don’t. Christ paid the price for our sin, but Jesus is also faithful to keep on forgiving us when we sin again. We can be assured not only of our salvation, but of Jesus’ intercession for us. We believe a promise when we believe the person who promised it. God is Faithful, so we know what He promises is true! Why do you hesitate to pray to God? Is it a sin in your life? Confess it!

How can you approach God’s throne with more boldness?
Why do you hesitate to pray to God? Is it sin in your life? Confess it!
What is the difference between confidence and arrogance?
How can you pray with confidence?

I was challenged by a sweet friend, Ruthie with her “Couch to Knee” challenge. She encourages actually getting on our knees and set a timer. I really hope this develops more of a habit of prayer in my life! Sign up here – its not too late to join us!

I love the idea of challenging ourselves to spend more purposeful time with God. Prayer often gets pushed to the side (or out of the picture) except for a quick, “thank you for this food”. Thanks for the reminder today — and for the link up!
