The Daily Grace Bible Study Method

The Daily Grace Bible Study Method

Can I do this? My five-year-old begged to open the plastic toy with paint and a faux stained glass picture.

Sure, I replied.

Her sister, my four-year-old, walked into the room and handed me her picture. I signed. And I admit…. I didn’t want to sit and guide her wobbly hand to dip the paint brush into the small paint samples and then help her bring color to her stained glass space ship picture. Our four-year-old has a hard time with fine details because of her special needs.

I decided to help her paint the picture. I put the bib around her neck, helped her into her booster seat at the dining room table. She wiggled her body in excitement and a smile plastered her face. I couldn’t help my smile back. I sat there, next to her and gave her the paint brush.

Let’s see what you can do on your own…. I set the picture in front of her and walked to throw away the trash.

I came back and saw her hand, a little wiggly, steady itself and dip the end of the paintbrush into the green color.  Her eyes, which struggled to focus, moved to the empty plastic canvas. I watched in amazement as she painted the rocket ship. She stayed in the lines, for the most part, but her hand steadied itself and dipped the brush again in the green. Again. Over and over she slowly added the rainbow to the space stars and planets. I only had to open the different colors.  I watched with a sigh and rebuked my heart. My fears. My hesitation.

On that day God reminded me of daily grace. Watching my daughter and marveling at her accomplishment, the Lord gave me this verse:

“Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation.” Psalm 68:19

Salvation makes me think of grace. If grace is like a coffee cup, it isn’t just available for the moment of conversion. Grace happens every day, do I see it? God is daily bearing me up: in the mundane, the busy, and the hard moments. He allows a glimmer of heaven and the glory His redemption every single day. Do I see it?

I’ve found my heart is more grateful, more in tune with Him when I daily look for graces in my ordinary moments. The truth of God comes flooding back, encouraging my soul each time I stop to find the small daily graces.

Daily Grace Moments can be anything. A smile from someone who you thought was mad at you. A whisper of love from your children. A small gift or card in the mail. Dinner turning out so much better than you thought.

Make a list of Daily Graces each time you begin each day – and add to your list throughout the day! **NOW AVAILABLE** I have this method, plus 3 additional Bible study methods all found in one workbook. The digital version is READY! Check it out here!
