Taking Bible Reading One Day at a Time
Taking Bible Reading One Day at a Time
I know you friend. I really do know you. Here are two things that I know about you:
- You struggle with doing it all, but know God needs to be a priority in your life.
- You are ready to change your daily routine, even just one small step at a time!
So where do you start?
How do you change when life is so hard?
I shared this on Instagram and I love it: You are not behind in Bible reading. Yes, the Bible can be intimidating and you might feel behind, but you aren’t. The beautiful thing about God’s Word is that you can study your entire life and still not know everything it holds. So you are not behind! Whether you are eighteen or forty or eighty years old, God says you can start today.
The number one way to get started is to start, but the best way to keep going is to read one day at time. You can decide each day to start today. So what if its been days, weeks, months, or even years. Let me say this louder:
YOU CAN START TODAY
Guilt, shame, and embarrassment are often the reason we don’t reach out and ask for help with Bible reading. But let me tell you: this is a shame-free place! I want to be here for you to encourage you, guide you, and help you move forward with practical help. Take it down from the shelf, off the nightstand, bookshelf, or coffee table. Pick it up from the drawer and open the word. There is not a magic recipe or pill you can take – but you do have the choice to start today. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Jesus said:
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:25
Are you not worth more than tiny birds? Jesus said we can trust our Heavenly Father to meet us TODAY in the word! It is powerful, perfect, and gives our life purpose. Living in the past will only bring out guilt. Living thinking about tomorrow robs you of the gift that is today. In the beginning God created us for twenty-four hours. We all have the same amount of time. Let us fill our minds each day with good things! Paul says this in Philippians:
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” Phil. 4:8-9
Do you want to know what kinds of things we can think about? God’s Word!! Take it one day at a time. How do we do this? We decide TODAY to read the Bible. And then each day we wake up and read again. The best way to do this is to have a plan.
