5 Promises God Has Already Kept
5 Promises God Has Already Kept
As the leaves fall and winter starts to make its way into our lives, we all get a little sentimental. The change of seasons reminds us that our lives are always changing. There are big changes, but the small changes sometimes make us wish for better days. Was the green of spring ever here? All of the leaves fall from the trees, leaving the branches bare. Sometimes I feel like God strips our lives of things and what is left feels barren and empty. Like the trees outside my winter on the cold days of winter, I wonder if the leaves really will return?
And what if our lives don’t return to what they were like? Some changes can’t be undone. But if you’ve lived in a place where spring comes around then you know. Spring is not an empty hope. Fall and winter are only here for a season. And just like the rotation of the earth and the sun’s orbit in the sky, we can count on something else.
We can count on God keeping his promises. Over the course of the Bible’s narrative we see that God promises a lot of things, and through the pages of scripture we see that He has already kept so many promises. Let’s take a look at just five promises God has already kept, which only scratches the surface! Beside each promise I share a little about how these promises give us hope in our lives today.
Promise 1
God promises to not flood the earth like He did in Noah’s time. Every time we see a rainbow we are reminded that God has kept this promise. He has not destroyed the earth by flood and he never will. The rainbow is a sign that God keeps His promises.
Promise 2
God promises a son to Abraham and Sarah. The barren will be filled. This is a promise made to many in the Bible and this is a promise for you. God may not give you a physical baby, but He will fill that hole in your heart if you will let Him. He promises to fill you, even if you feel barren.
Promise 3
God promises to rescue the people from Egypt. He doesn’t just leave us in a place where we are stuck in sin. God will make a way for us to resist temptation and find the help we need to be released from the sinful hold of this world.
Promise 4
God promises the disciples they would cross over the sea of Galilee. Even when the storms came, God made the wind and sea be still. God will go through the storms with us.
Promise 5
God promises a Messiah. In Genesis 3:15 we get the first mention of God’s promise of sending a savior into the world. Throughout the Bible this promised Christ is spoke on and in the New Testament we rejoice that this Savior did come! Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of every promise!
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 2 Corinthians 1:20
Jesus is God’s promise for us! How much more will God fulfill His promises to us!
Make sure to check out more of God’s promises in my new book, I Didn’t Sign Up for This. You can read all about how God rescues His people from Egypt through the life of Moses. Even though our stories shift, God’s goodness is there.
