A Prayer for Easter

As I look forward to Easter this year my heart has been turned to the Gospels. Reading through the accounts of Jesus’ week before the cross, the crucifixion, and then the resurrection, has moved me to think more about Jesus’ life now. I am also studying Hebrews, which is all about Jesus. Both of these things have caused me to want to offer a prayer for easter. Below you can read through my prayer, but I also include some scriptures you might want to read around the easter season.

A Prayer for Easter
Dear Heavenly Father,
Coming to you during this time before Easter I think of your love. In the beginning, your love revolved around the Trinity. Father. Son. Spirit. Because you held so much love it spilled out in the creation you made. In the beginning, you knew that we would fall away and before time even began you had planned the way back to you.
I praise you for your good plan and the Sabbath rest you have invited us into. Reading the witnesses of the apostles of Jesus’ life on earth fills my heart with such comfort. Jesus was a man who walked through the suffering with such patience and joy but did not sugarcoat the pain. He cried to you so that it could be removed, but still walked into the unimaginable because of his love for us and his desire to do your will. It gives me courage in my own suffering and grief to know that Jesus has walked this path before.
Help me not rush through Friday’s pain but let me also remind me that Sunday has already come. Resurrection has happened and because of this resurrection, I have hope and confidence to walk through my valley today. Help me cling to you, God. Create in my heart a new life as I reflect and remember the suffering but also the triumph of Easter morning! Amen.

Help me not rush through Friday’s pain but let me also remind me that Sunday has already come.
May we not rush to get past the pain because we know that the pain sometimes lingers but the pain also points us closer and draws us nearer to the Father and Son. May we also not linger in the pain. Christ did not linger in the grave. He arose and new life is ours even today! The paradox of the Christian life is that pain and sorrow can also live side-by-side with JOY.
If you ever wonder about the dark season you might find yourself hurting. BUT remember, God is working in the dark!
