The First Thing to Say When Doubt is Shouting

the-first-thing-to-say-when-doubt-is-shouting-truth-for-woman-devotional

A friend wrote me a note last week: Pray for me. I’m struggling with anxiety. She recognized the source of the anxiety was lies, but her heart just felt so worried. I prayed for wisdom, as I typed a quick response. I wrote: Speak truth to your heart. I saw the word lies and realized the only help I could offer her was truth.  And the only source of truth, is God’s Word. When we are surrounded by anxiety and stress, we are listening to the crafty lies of our enemy. It can be a long road, but it begins with the first step. The first step is to speak truth.

Speak truth to your friends.

Speak truth to your family.

Speak truth to yourself.

Those lies seep in like the cold rain and wet snow. They fill our minds. And begin to look like truth. But those lies will never be truth. We know in our hearts, no matter how real they seem. No matter how rational they seem, truth will not cause worry.

Truth will not be anxiety-filled.

Truth will not be filled with dread and doom.

Truth will not fill us with a darkness and keep us chained to our prison of worry.

The lies keep us locked up. Truth sets us free.

John 8:32 – “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Truth fills our minds with peace. With a settled peace. Deep inside we know. We just know. Even if our hearts waiver – truth can be louder than doubt. It can be hidden. Our hearts speak louder than our minds sometimes. But we must not let it. We must not let our feelings tell our minds what to think.

If we desire to find words to fill our heart with good things, look to truth. Seek the truth. Look for it. In God’s word. The Bible is our source of truth. No matter where you open your Bible, God will speak truth to you. I promise you.

1. Read Truth.  All the words in the Bible is truth. Start in John or Psalms. Just read it. You will find truth in the pages. Read truth.
2. Speak Truth. Say the words out loud. Tell them to yourself. Its ok if others think you’re crazy. Say the verses out loud. Tell yourself (and others). Speak truth.
3. Write Truth. Write the words on paper. In a notebook. On poster board. Type them up. Print them off. Write them on post-its. Napkins. Scraps of homework paper. Write them again and again. Write truth.
The Preacher sought to find words of delight, and uprightly he wrote words of truth.
Write it down. Something happens when we use our brains and hands to pen TRUTH.
When my heart is filled with worry and anxiety, I fill my mind with Truth. Does it mean the anxieties are magically gone? No. My heart will still worry. My heart is still prone to wonder, but my mind is stronger than my heart. My mind can know the truth.  Knowing the truth is the first step in feeling the truth. When doubt begins shouting, speak truth.
There are a millions truths for every lie…..
