Let Me Talk About the Most Important Thing

For this Tuesday Talk link-up, I’m going to get real here. I want to share with you something I’ve never shared on this blog. In fact, my husband has challenged me to share this – and I think today is the perfect day.

So many of you, my sweet friends and readers, have been on my heart these past few weeks. The Lord has convicted my heart because this isn’t MY blog, it is HIS. The words I try share here are uplifting, and hopefully encouraging your heart. No matter how many verses, or words, or quotes, or wisdom I share here – it doesn’t matters if you don’t know my Jesus.

If your heart wants the encouragement, the peace and joy I talk about here – let me tell you: It is NOT in reading the Bible more. It is NOT in praying more. The change in my life, the ability to see Him in every heartache, trial, loss, and pain is only made possible through my relationship with God.

A relationship with God doesn’t develop if it never starts. So let me ask you a question: Have you ever accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior? Have you confessed your sins? Have you asked Him to be the Lord of your life? Are you CERTAIN you are a Christian and will be in heaven when you die?

When I was eight years old, I was asked this question. As a child knew I would not be going to heaven because I could never remember a time I had specifically asked Jesus to be my Savior. So the sweet teacher at church lead me in a prayer to accept Jesus as my Savior. I followed my Savior in baptism that summer to be a witness to what God had done in my heart.

Did I understand everything as a eight-year old? No.

When I was thirteen, there was this ritual at a Bible camp I attended. At the end of the week, we would all commit our lives to God and to show our commitment, we would throw a stick in the fire. So I did. As a sixteen-year-old girl, I dreamed about the mission field. So that summer, I was on the edge of a river in the jungles of Peru, on a short-term mission’s trip, and I made the emotional decision to give up my dreams for God’s—even if it meant not going on the mission field.

Fast forward fifteen years later, and I’m in the middle of motherhood with five small children. Back when I was sixteen, my dreams of surrendering to God didn’t include dirty diapers, loneliness, and postpartum depression. My dreams had been steeped in adventure. God is teaching me the path of surrender doesn’t always lead to the desert or jungles. Surrender is about simply coming to Jesus.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

Coming to Jesus has everything to do with surrender. A surrender of our will. Our desires. Our strength. We empty ourselves. We recognize and come to Jesus with open hands. We pour out the little we have so we may fill ourselves with all that He is.

Do you have a testimony of surrender? My walk with Christ had a beginning, does yours? I’d love to hear it! Email me here: [email protected]

Friend, if you could not write me an email because you are NOT SURE you are saved, let’s take care of that today. You don’t have to wait until a church service, you don’t have to wait until you feel better, stop sinning, or get your life together. Jesus only said: come.

Come to Him and offer a simple prayer of repentance. It is really and truly the most important thing. It is because ETERNITY is at stake. Jesus died on the cross so we could have the forgiveness of sins. He rose again so we could live forever.

That Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,  that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,  and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.  – I Cor. 15:3-5

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. – Romans 5:1-2

Don’t delay! God is ready to forgive you! Jesus’ work is finished. You can pray a simple prayer like this one….

Lord Jesus, I come to you empty handed. I have nothing to offer. I know I have sinned against you. I know I have a debt I cannot pay. I pray you will forgive my sins. O God, please look to Jesus and let His blood cover my sins. I accept you as the Lord of my life and I surrender my will to you. Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, PLEASE Contact Me to let me know! I would love to send you some FREE resources for your walk with God.

If you are a Christian, how do you know?

I’ve written 5-day Mini-Course on your Identity in Christ. How do you know you are a Christian? First John tells us how we can know FOR SURE! We might have doubts, but I’ve found a way to combat those doubts.

If you struggle with….

  • whether you are a Christian.
  • knowing if God is happy with you.
  • feeling free of guilt.
  • doubting God’s grace and salvation in your life.

Find the HOPE and ASSURANCE in this FREE 5-Day Mini-Course!

Blessings!

  1. Sarah, I love your post. There is no better time than now, at the first of the year to make sure we are connected to /in a relationship with God. As you said increasing our prayer time or bible reading will not do it. Only in our deeper relationship will we find peace. Thank you for sharing Christ today. It is my prayer that someone will come on the Lord’s side. You are a missionary dear. This is your mission field.

  2. Beautiful and such a blessing to your readers! Your home base may be smack in the middle of motherhood (it’s own mission field!) but your words are flying free.

I love how similar our stories are by the way 🙂 You’re not alone!

  3. This is a beautiful post…thank you! I have been thinking a good bit this week about blogging about the most important thing because I was doing some keyword research the other day, and every topic about faith I looked up resulted in the fact that millions of people search for “Jesus” every month, but the “competition” for posts about him is “low.” How convicting!

  4. I agree, Sarah, your post is about THE most important thing. It’s where it all starts and nothing else matter without it! Praying many are convicted of their need for Him and respond to His call to “come” spoken through your words. Blessings!

  5. Thank you for the call to follow Jesus today. What a beautiful challenge to step out boldly into a relationship that changes lives. I appreciate your own story and the resources you share to follow through in our own lives. Glad to be your neighbor at Testimony Tuesday.

  6. Sarah,
I love your call in this post. Salvation truly is THE IMPORTANT THING. Nothing else matters if we don’t get that right with God.
I found your blog since you were the girl after me in the #RaRaLinkup. Great to get connected to another group of bloggers. I’ve linkup up on your site now for what is this week’s post. Have a great day! Nice to ‘meet’ you 🙂

  7. All-important ~ we cannot neglect to converse about salvation. It’s the basis for it all. #goJesus Great post, Sarah. Visiting via #testimonyTuesday.

  8. My boys went to a camp where they did something like that – throw a stick into the bonfire just like you describe. A couple of my boys worked there – and it was a special time. I don’t have one BIG surrender story – I think the closer I draw to the Father, the more complete my surrender becomes – so I have lots of surrender stories – where something new is surrendered – maybe sometimes it is just more deeply and completely surrendered. I think I’ve spent a lifetime slowly becoming better at being his.

  9. Thank you for sharing this. Sometimes, we get so caught up in teaching and encouraging that we forget some of our readers are yet to make peace with God through Christ. God bless you richly in Jesus’ name.

  10. That was Word of Life camps wasn’t it? I was there to help out and I visited the Island.
