What are you afraid of?

When it comes to my life, I can’t seem to find something I am particularly afraid of. I don’t like heights, spiders, or closed in spaces. Yet, I don’t get anxious or stressed if faced with any one of those things. I move past it and fear usually doesn’t over take me.

In fact, before this year I rarely felt a deep sense of fear. I worried about my children getting sick or hurt. I wondered about the future and stressed about the unknowns. But I didn’t have the deep-rooted fear other people describe. The feeling of being paralyzed and unable to move forward. The feels of panic and the heart racing.

Imagine my surprise when 2017 shifted into gear and I began feeling all of those things. Panic. Anxiety. Stress. I imagined the worse case scenarios about every tiny detail of my life until I was laying awake every night. Peace was gone!

I knew God was good. I also knew really really bad things could happen. I knew God was in control, but heartache still coms in our sin-fallen world. So when I began to lie awake night after night and could only binge watch Netflix to help myself relax, I wondered……was fear creeping in? Was fear entering my heart and taking root?

The only place I could turn was God’s Word. So I looked up all the passages I could on fear. I came up with the following reading plan. I’ve picked verses you can study for 25 days.

  1. Fear can be so tricky. It can come in quiet and grow rapid until it’s everywhere. I, like you, have rarely had that paralyzing fear. But make no mistake, I’ve known fear.
    Little fears that spin constant.
Looking to Jesus to stop them is the only way.
I so appreciate your reading plan to fight fear!

    1. Thank you so much Becky, and yes it does come in very sneakily and we feel so helpless with it.

  2. Thanks so much for this resource! I’m sharing it on Facebook and Pinterest as we speak (as I type? Immediately thereafter?)! Fear is such a paralytic influence. It stymies our growth and prevents us from becoming what the Lord has for us!

I’m so thankful that when I am afraid, I can trust in Him!
