How the Psalms Are a Place of Comfort
How the Psalms Are a Place of Comfort
The moment I realized I needed more than a sentiment was the time I laid in bed cried. The tears were literally soaking my pillow. The next morning massacre marked the white cotton. Good vibes, simple prayers, and love from those around me couldn’t solve the hopelessness I felt deep inside my soul.
Have you ever felt this way? Overwhelmed with anxiety you literally struggled to breathe? Deep in the pit of depression unable to see the light? Hidden away in a season of being unseen, unnoticed, and maybe even unloved. Do you feel the sting of despair today?
If you do, or know of someone who does, can I whisper a promise I needed in the dark? It is not a platitude but a peace I found in the pages of the Book of Psalms. In the depths of my despair I would whisper the prayers from Psalms I had memorized. I whispered and prayed in my heart for the hurt to leave, but in reality God was right there in the midst of it.
The truth of His word spoke to the depths of my depression like nothing else could. No hug from my husband, kisses from kids, or favors from my friends could really cure the ache. Only God’s Word, and especially the Psalms, is the perfect book for comfort.
For ages and ages the words written thousands of years ago have brought comfort to a myriad of people of God. And today the words will do the same for you. Can I promise the depression will go away? Nope. Will I say the hope will come in like a white horse to rescue you? No, in fact, hope will be like the rising sun. It will happen in a slow movement and you will not realize hope has risen until you see it fully lighting the way.
O friend, I know the dark seems too dark – but can I ask you to open your Bible in the center and read the book of Psalms? It truly is the perfect place to find comfort. That’s why I am so excited to be able to share with you this devotional, Songs of Hope: 31 Days in the Psalms.
For the past five months my friend Keri and I have gathered together a group of talented writers to bring you one of my favorite books in my shop! Yes, I love this book so much I couldn’t wait to share it with you. Songs of Hope is a book for the busy, the worn, the wary, and the weary woman.
Each day you will read a chapter in the Book of Psalms, a short devotional, a prayer, and the opportunity to answer three reflection questions. Each devotional was written by a woman who has walked the road of hopelessness, only to find a little light and the whisper of a song God sings to us.
You won’t find anything else like this book ANYWHERE. Download a copy here. We are taking pre-orders for the physical copies as well. (Until June 10).
