Three Truths about the Holy Spirit

Three Truths about the Holy Spirit

One of the beautiful things about the Bible is that you can read it over and over again. Throughout the years of studying and reading my Bible I am always surprised (although I shouldn’t be) that it speaks to me fresh and new in seasons I need it.

The other day I was reading the account of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and her encounter with the angel. In her home, in the quiet of her normal ordinary life she is invited to be a part of the biggest story ever told! She is invited to be the one who carries and births the Son of God!?

If anyone knew the feeling of “God with us,” it was her. To carry a child (any child), is a special bond that never leaves you. In those nine months she had time to feel the indwelling of the Savior, the Son, and the God Himself. No other religion says that God came down to us. He came to be with Mary. But He also comes to us.

God With Us

As I was driving, a new song by JJ Heller came on my playlist. It was called, God With All Us. In this beautiful piece of music I was reminded that

I love this line: “Love has a beating heart.” Have you ever been so close to someone that you could hear their heartbeat? Jesus came that close to Mary. Jesus was Immanuel and at Christmas we are reminded that Jesus became a human so that He could live the life we couldn’t live in order to die the death we couldn’t die so we could have life with Him!

If it was just that we have reason to rejoice. But there is more! In John 14:16-17 Jesus tells us: “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”

With us and within us lives the Holy Spirit – God with us! We have God with us as Christians. We can rejoice today not just because Jesus came but that He sent the Holy Spirit to live within us.

Do you feel distant from God? Read John 14 again and let these truths sink into your heart:

Three Truths About the Holy Spirit

  1. He is the Helper. What is a helper? He helps! With what? He helps remind us of Scripture. He helps give us peace when we are anxious. He gives us strength and wisdom. He is our Light for the path.
  2. He reminds us of the Truth. Do you wonder how a verse comes to your mind when you need it the most? Have you ever just known what to say in a hard situation? That’s the Holy Spirit! He leads us and guides us. If we are daily abiding in God’s Word, He is the one who brings it to our minds when we need it.
  3. He dwells in us. The Spirit is within us. All humans are body, mind, and spirit. And the God of the universe sent His spirit to live within our spirit! How amazing!? How comforting to know we will never, ever be alone.

Friend, you might feel alone and not significant. Everyone in our life might leave but God never will!  God is with us. He is with all of us. It does not matter our bank account, our spiritual health, or our emotional state: God is with all of us!
