Dwelt Among Us & Tuesday Talk
And the Word become flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1:14
Dwelt Among Us.
When I think about Christ dwelling with us, I often think of the time He was here on earth. Around Christmastime, that’s what we tend to think about. We marvel and worship our King who came as a baby. Sometimes I wish I was alive during that time. I wish I could have seen Him as flesh. I wish I could have touched his skin and just felt what it was like to have God dwelling with us, here on earth.
God is still dwelling with us, though. Christ ushered in the beginning of a new time in history. With Christ came the promise of the Comforter. The Holy Spirit lives inside those who trust Christ as their Savior. We have Him living in our very souls. Daily. We have this indwelling Spirit – NOW. Although Christ is in heaven, we still have God with us. Not just then, but now.
As I grow in Christ, I find I long to grow even more. I wish for even more closeness with God. I have tasted the goodness of the Lord and have wanted more. More of God’s presence. More of God’s truth, speaking to my heart. More of the indwelling Spirit. More of the Word.
I will pray as A.W. Tozer did:
“O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need for further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, so that I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, ‘Rise up my love, my fair one, and come away.’ Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long.”
I pray I will never forget the power of wanting more of Him. More of the indwelling Spirit. More of God with us. More of Immanuel.
