10 Ways to Seek God in the Morning

What is it about mornings? It seems I think best in the early hours of the day. I see things more clearly. I am able to focus my mind a little better. When I think about getting up early, it is always met with mixed feelings. I shared a few weeks ago how I am trying to do better with getting up early. I’ve done it inconstantly since then.

One thing is for sure: I love getting up early because I feel more productive. But I also thought about the story in Exodus 16 when God gives the children of Israel manna. Isn’t amazing and miraculous how God provided for His people?

It was all about the provision, yes, on a basic level. But I’m realizing how much more God had in mind when He gave His people food. Psalm 78 has the account of this story told from a different prospective.

Therefore when the LORD heard {Israel’s complaining} he was full of wrath; a fire was kindled against Jacob; his anger rose against Israel, because they did not believe in God and did not trust his saving power. Yet he commanded the skies above and opened the doors of heaven, and he rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven. Man ate the bread of angels; he sent them food in abundance. Psalm 78:21-25

God was angry, not because they complained, but because the complaining came out of an unbelieving heart. They did not believe in God and did not trust His saving power. YET. In all of their unbelief, and God’s righteous wrath towards them, He still provided. Daily.

He wanted to prove to them He wasn’t going to just rescue them during life-death situations as He did in with the crossing of the Red Sea. He was going to rescue them in the ordinary. “Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven….a day’s portion…and in the morning you shall see the glory of the LORD.” (Ex. 16:4-7)

Each morning you and I have a choice to make. Will you be partakers of the manna of God’s Word? Will you find God’s glory in the morning before your day begins? Or will you fail to trust God, and wake up to start our day without Him?

I’ve created some tips on how to spend only 10 minutes of your morning with God. Anyone can spare 10 minutes in the morning, and if you can’t – be creative! Do it in the car at a stoplight on your way to drop the kids off. Get up just 10 minutes early. Set out the clothes the night before so you don’t have to sort through laundry to find what to wear. (Or am I the only with baskets of laundry in my bedroom floor?!)

Don’t forget to pin this post!

Praying the Promises of the Cross *!

Arabah Joy, who I’ve shared with you about before, has a 40-day prayer journal. It takes you through the verses in the Bible relating to Christ and His sacrifice on the cross.

Sometimes we focus on the cross only at Easter. But what if everyday, for 40 days, we refocused our minds on Christ’s sacrifice?!?! I love this resource because it has only ONE verse per day to read. Just one! I promise each day will only take you 10 minutes (or less) to do. I’ve already started this prayer journal and can’t wait to continue to use it in my own personal quiet time.

You can get this prayer journal here!*

Blessings friend!

  1. Such a great list! Sometimes we make our time with God so complicated, but it really is very, very simple. There are no rules. There’s no formula or right way to do it. He just wants us to show up.

  2. Love the tips you shared, Sarah. If I am running late in the morning, I turn to the verse of the day on You Version. I try to read it in the Amplified, so that it’s got a bit more teeth on it, and I will pray over that one verse before I head out for the day. This works for me if I am pressed for time. I also keep a devotional on my nightstand that I can read in a minute or two if time is short, and I can’t do my longer reading plan.

  3. I love how you mentioned that even though God’s wrath burned against his people, he met them where they were at. That brings such comfort!!!! That is one of my favorite attributes about God – because He shows me His love is totally unconditional. Great post!

  4. Thank you for the tip will do but I still have trouble staying the bible help
